PM Modi Hails Nepal PM Sushila Karki’s Appointment As ‘Example Of Women’s Empowerment’

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated an interim PM of Nepal, Sushila Karki, on her appointment as the interim PM, terming her appointment as a bright demonstration of women empowerment.

Speaking at a rally in Manipur capital Imphal, Modi stated that India and Nepal have been good friends with a shared past, religion and cultural connections, and New Delhi stood by the people of the neighbouring nation through their turbulent times.

“I want to congratulate Sushila Karki on behalf of 140 crore Indians. I am confident that she will pave the way for peace, stability, and prosperity in Nepal,” the PM said.

Friday night, former Chief Justice Sushila Karki became the first woman prime minister of Nepal to head an interim government.

“Karki occupying the top post of that country is an example of women's empowerment,” Modi asserted.

Her appointment brought days of political instability because the K P Sharma Oli government was compelled to resign following a nationwide agitation that was caused by a social media ban.

Karki was elected to head the interim government following a discussion between president paudel and the top military officials of Nepal and the youth protestors who led the movement.

The PM also praised the strength of the Nepali people, saying how the citizens, the youth, particularly the young men and women, were participating in clean-up and painting of the buildings in the last several days, through political upheaval.

The PM stressed the unity of India, that the two countries were in a process of progress, and repeated the commitment of New Delhi to help Nepal in its democratic process, and its desire to achieve stability.
