‘How Can They Be Unsafe?’ UP Minister Dismisses Unnao Rape Survivor’s Fears After Kuldeep Singh Sengar’s Bail
The court ordered the convict to keep at least 5 kilometres distance with the family of the survivor, which was mentioned by UP minister Om Prakash Rajbhar.
On a row about the conditional bail of expelled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who is in the case relating to accusations of rape of the Unnao girl, a minister in Uttar Pradesh asked the family of the victim not to be worried about their security.
Quoting the directives in the bail of Kuldeep Sengar by the court, the minister of the state of Uttar Pradesh Om Prakash Rajbhar stated that the convict was requested not to come within a distance of five kilometres of the family of the survivor. "While protesting in Delhi, the police told the family that if the court has made this arrangement, then how can they be unsafe?" Rajbhar was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

These statements of the minister emerged at a time when the rape victim and family were seriously concerned with the hanging of jail term of Kuldeep Sengar. The survivor even protested against the bail at the India gate on Tuesday accompanied by her mother and activist Yogita Bhayana.
“I am extremely upset by what has happened today in the court,” the survivor told HT while travelling to India Gate for the protest. She claimed that she was appallingly unsafe due to the bail conditions of Sengar.
The accused, Kuldeep Sengar, was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment in December 2019 over the rape of a 17-year-old girl in Unnao, a state in Uttar Pradesh in 2017. Nevertheless, the Delhi high court on Tuesday stayed the life sentence of the expelled BJP leader compensation of the fact that he had served the most punishment under the POCSO Act.The court order caused fears even to the family of the Unnao rape survivor despite the decision which did not allow Sengar to approach her within a five-kilometre radius of the woman.
This woman is 24 years old and lives in Delhi. After the conditional bail to Sengar, she has been given permission to be under court protection and five to 11 CRPF officials are accompanied everywhere she goes.
But the mother of the survivor recently mentioned that she and her three children were guaranteed some protection till March this year but this was cancelled. “He will get us all killed now,” she said, expressing fear for her family's safety.
