Cabinet Approves Delhi Metro Expansion; 13 New Stations to Come Up in 3 Years
The approval of the Delhi Metro Phase 5A project by the Cabinet was a guarantee of a 16-km stretch of the phase that would comprise 13 metro stations.
Cabinet has given a green light to the Delhi Metro Phase 5A project, a 16 km stretch with 13 new stations that will be constructed in three years at the cost of 12015 crore.
Out of the 13 stations that will be developed according to the Phase 5A, 10 will be underground and three will be on the air, according to the Press Information Bureau (PIB). The total distance of operation of Delhi Metro system will reach the 400 km mark with these corridors.
There are three corridors in the approved phase. The most lengthy will be between Ramakrishna Asrham Marg to Indraprastha and will be 9.9 km in length and will cost 95704 crore. The other corridor will be that of Aerocity to Airport Terminal-1 which will cover a distance of 2.3 km at a projected cost of 1419.6 crore. The third section will connect Tughlakabad and Kalindi Kunj covering 3.9 km at a cost of 1024.8 crore.
These are new corridors that would enhance connectivity within high traffic zones within the national capital. They will also reduce congestion in the roads, and will enhance the last-mile connectivity to major residential, commercial and transit centers.

In the meantime, the construction of the Saket G Block-Lajpat Nagar stretch of the Delhi Metro Phase 4 had started at the beginning of this month and the project was inaugurated by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The event was also characterized by the pioneer and the inaugural piling of the raised part of the Golden Line (Line-11) at Pushpa Bhawan close to Saket. The corridor is scheduled to be finished in the year 2029.
The new line will cover 8 km and will extend out of the corridor in the IGI Airport-Tughlakabad line at the Saket G Block, and will have eight elevated stations. Such stations will be erected in Lajpat Nagar, Andrews Ganj, Greater Kailash-1, Chirag Delhi, Pushpa Bhawan, Saket District Centre, Pushp Vihar and Saket G Block.
