Delhi-NCR Faces Massive Traffic Jam Amid Festive Rush on Dhanteras
Long queues were witnessed during the shopping spurt leading to Dhanteras, leading to commuter traffic police recommending that people should use transport schemes and that routes should be calculated
Massive traffic jams were experienced in several parts of the Delhi-NCR on a Friday evening during the festive rush with major intersection experiencing long queues of vehicles.
The capital city was reported to have traffic jams at major cross-roads and other high-profile locations, such as Moolchand flyover, Chanakyapuri, Teen Murti Marg and ITO as the city prepares to celebrate Diwali on Monday 20 October.

Bumper to bumper jam has also been experienced in the market areas and arterial routes causing frustration to the commuters and greatly prolonging the time taken in traveling. Videos provided by the news agency ANI depicted long queues of vehicles moving at a snail pace.
Peak hour rush was also experienced in the IFFCO Chowk of Gurugram and the road between Delhi and Gurugram.
Delhi Traffic Police releases advisory ahead of Diwali.
The Delhi Traffic Police has also released an advisory on how to organize their travel to prevent unnecessary travelling during peak hours due to the increasing problems of traffic congestion on the roads.The Delhi Traffic Police today notified that there was traffic jam at Bhera Enclave Chowk in Mathra road and at Badarpur towards Ashram Chowk.
The officials reported that perpetual road repair operations and losses at various strategic crossroads have also increased the slowness of the traffic, and the alternative routes and early commuting to work have become extremely important to the commuters.
Drivers have been encouraged to create some additional time and navigation applications to avoid busy roads. Diversions and real-time traffic information is also available on X (previously Twitter) with updates being followed by commuters on updates given by @dtptraffic.

Leaves of traffic personnel were cancelled.
As a way of handling the increased traffic during the festive season, the Delhi Police have canceled all the leaves of all the traffic staff on Thursday, which will make sure that there is maximum availability of traffic staff throughout the city. Ajay Chaudhary, Special Commissioner of police (Traffic), told PTIThe whole city has been deployed to maximum. Motorcycling personnel has been put on, and leaves cancelled. We are more than ready to cope with the invasion and make the progression more palatable in the next few days.
There is also an increased traffic management set up within commercial and market locations where vehicle traffic is usually high during the festival period in a year.
The governments are already working towards ensuring that there is a smoother traffic movement, the elimination of traffic jams, and the safety of the motorists and pedestrians with the augmented festive activity.
It is also encouraged that commuters should at least plan their travels, travel outside peak hours where possible and strictly adhere to traffic rules to avoid the Diwali rush in the city.
