Mitchell Marsh Makes Humble Plea to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma Ahead of 1st ODI Against Australia: ‘Not Too Much Great Cricket’

Australian ODI captain, Mitchell Marsh has welcomed Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma back with an imaginary wink and nudge before the commencement of the three match ODI series on Saturday, 19 th October. He himself hailed the greats as box-office attractions; then half-jokingly suggested that the Australians should watch two of the greats without them going mad with the bat.

In an interview with the media a day before the series, Marsh referred to them as legends of the game, singled out Kohli as the best chaser in all white-ball cricket and associated their attendance with a rapid sale of tickets around the various venues.

Marsh does not want Ro-Ko to get berserk

Talking about the availability of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the series, Marsh said, “I had the privilege of playing against them quite a lot through the journey. They are obviously legends of the game. Virat, especially in this white-ball format, is the greatest chaser ever. I think you can see why the ticket sales are so high and why a lot of people are coming to watch them. And if it is their last time on Australian soil, I hope they enjoy it, and I hope people can witness, not too much great cricket from them, but witness two of the greats playing in Australia.”

The three-match ODI series will see Kohli and Rohit back into Indian colours the first time after ICC Champions Trophy final with New Zealand. The India duo will also feature in the headline of the bilateral affair which is expected to be packed houses in Australia.

On top of the banter, the comments of Marsh give the sense that the series is a celebration of two contemporary giants that are playing in Australia. This perhaps might be the final tour of the two legends of the game in Down Under. To the broadcasters and venues, the ticket sales line is an assurance that Kohli-Rohit are the biggest crowd pullers in the sport.

Kohli, Rohit to play in Australia

It is worth noting that the series is preparation ground to the world cup that will take place in 2027. As Shubman Gill takes the captainship, and Rohit joins the team as a batter, there has been a discussion on the future of the two players. When the team is about to play with a new captain the eyes will be on the performance of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

The two standout players will be eager to capitalize on the tour and register runs to secure their position in the flight heading to South Africa two years from now. The three ODIs will be played in Perth, Adelaide, and Sydney on 19th December, 23rd December and 25th December respectively at the Optus Stadium (the first one), and then a day/night ODI at Adelaide and finally at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
