Subhashree Ganguly Says Her Kids Are Getting Death Threats After Pics With Messi: ‘Didn’t Shah Rukh Take Photos?’
Bengali actress Subhasree Ganguly criticized cyber bullying after she took a meeting with Messi, asking why the industry was targeting women.
Bengali film star Subhasree Ganguly was the target of heavy trolling when images of her with a football star Lionel Messi resurfaced when the GOAT India Tour 2025 took place in Kolkata. The protests came after a turmoil at Salt Lake Stadium on Saturday when over 60,000 people flocked the facility to have a glimpse of Messi. Crowd control went wrong and the footballer had to flee the place as furious fans apparently threw bottles and chairs.

In reaction to the criticism, Subhashree made a video on her Instagram page to explain her side of the story. She said that she was officially invited to meet Messi and she came to the specified hotel around 8:30 am. At around 10:00 to 10:15 am, she had met him and shot between 10:00 to 10.15 am. When she was about to go, the PR team of Messi asked her to go with them to Salt Lake stadium on the ground of security and convenience.

Subhashree claimed that she witnessed the situation becoming tense personally because Messi came to the stadium at around 11:30 am and emphasized that the organizers were just to blame in this case.
“I was sitting inside a tent near the field and couldn’t even see Messi. So how could you have seen him? Did I stand on the field or block anyone’s view? The criticism makes it seem as if I was standing next to Messi on the ground. What is my fault? Is it wrong that I went to a hotel and took photos? If anything, the pictures may have been posted at the wrong time due to a technical issue,” she said.
Kareena says SRK went too, says Subhashree
In a post to voice her suffering at the hands of the online bullies, the actor wondered whether she was the victim because she is a woman or she is a Bengali movie star. She also indicated that a number of other celebrities had encountered Messi.
“Kareena Kapoor went from Bollywood. Didn’t Shah Rukh Khan take photos? What is my fault? I’m being mocked by being called someone’s ex-girlfriend. It’s almost 2026, and even women are attacking women like this. Is this how you’ve decided to treat me?” she added.
In the end of the video, Subhashree explained that she had first tried to turn a blind eye to the criticism because she knew that people were hurting and letting out their anger. But this happened to be beyond the bounds, when her children were abused, and the threats threatened that her two young children would be murdered. She strongly denounced this, and that as a mother, she could not put up with such threats.
