Mymensingh lynching
The lynching took place against the backdrop of the popular unrest that ensued following the demise of the youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi, one of the key personalities of the student-led July Uprising last year, and the leader of the Inqilab Mancha. Hadi died on Thursday, in a Singapore hospital where he was receiving treatment following being shot in the head by masked assailants in Dhaka on December 12.
The interim government of Bangladesh had made a strong denunciation of the alleged lynching of a Hindu man in Mymensingh earlier in the same Friday as well as reiterated its call to calm.

The government responded in a statement by the Yunus administration and stated, “We express deep condemnation over the incident in Mymensingh in which a Hindu man was beaten to death. There is no place for such violence in the new Bangladesh. No one involved in this brutal crime will be spared.”
Referring to Hadi as a martyr, the government invited people to denounce violence, provocation and hatred. It also showed its support to journalists of major national dailies, The Daily Star, Prothom Alo whose offices were vandalised and burned by an irate mob although employees just escaped unscathed.
