US Woman Shares How Matcha Obsession Made Her Sick: Fatigue, Itchiness Reported
Lynn is a South Carolina woman who felt dangerously low on iron following the consumption of matcha once per week. Other than palpitations in the heart, identify what the symptoms were.
US Woman Shares How Matcha Obsession Made Her Sick: Matcha a fine powder of green tea has been slowly gaining popularity as a choice of drink due to its health benefits. In a 2014 meta-analysis, which was published in the European Journal of Nutrition, antioxidants known as catechins in green tea were shown to reduce blood pressure levels, as well as LDL (bad) cholesterol.
Nevertheless, the matcha-crazed obsession of a South Carolina, the US, woman took her to the hospital and her iron level became too low. The Mirror posted a story on September 9 that 28-year-old Lynn Shazeen began consuming matcha at least once a week 6 months ago. That was ok until the time when she had left with an IV drip on her arm and heart palpitations due to the matcha tea that she casually consumed.

Matcha takes a woman to the hospital when she has palpitations in the heart
According to Lynn, the incident was not accidental three months after she started taking matcha, she experienced some strange symptoms such as fatigue, coldness and sometimes heart palpitations. After three months, when she finally visited the hospital, blood tests indicated that her iron levels had reduced almost by half.
Soon, the doctors put her on a detox IV and prescribed iron supplements. “It was the only change I had made to my diet and daily routine. Myself and my doctor worked through every possibility, but it became clear that the matcha was the cause,” she told The Mirror.
The reason
How did this happen? Lynn claims that she has begun to consume matcha because she needs to add some anti-inflammatory factors to her diet. She is also reported to be low in iron and anaemic (when there is not enough red blood cells that are healthy enough to transfer oxygen to the body) in the blood. The inflammation had also been a problem with her. “Matcha, and green tea in general, is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, so I decided to start drinking one once a week or so,” she added.

It was a costly decision to her! Three months later, she experienced such symptoms as loss of energy, coldness, and heart palpitations. It continued deteriorating in the next 2 weeks, and by the time a visit to the hospital happened, her iron levels have dropped drastically.
"I noticed I kept feeling a lot colder and more tired than usual, but I had no idea what it was until I got the tests done. As soon as I saw that my iron levels had dropped from 23 to 13, I knew immediately that it was the matcha that had caused it," she told The Mirror.
She added, “It was a bit worrying, but as a health professional, I stayed calm. Since getting the IV, I’ve stopped drinking matcha and now only drink regular tea. I also take iron pills and vitamin C tablets to bring my levels back up.”
