Nitish Reddy’s Reverse-Swat Six Stuns Rishabh Pant, Amuses Bumrah, Shocks Boland

Nitish Reddy’s Reverse-Swat Six Stuns Rishabh Pant: The first innings of India was quite a struggle against Australia in a pink-ball Test at Adelaide. But there was always hope, as young Nitish Kumar Reddy played a show-stealer of an audacious shot. While the batting order fell apart around him, he was forced into a position where his sole hope was to show up standing at the crease under the pressure of a back-breaking job with the tail-enders. Pressure got to him and he swung for big shots during which he executed what can be called a phenomenal reverse scoop off Scott Boland.

The ball was a length just outside off stump, and Reddy, with immaculate timing, brought his bat down in a perfect reverse scoop over the slips. The ball went cleanly and easily all the way through without any doubting at all, into the boundary for a stupendous six.

Clearly enjoying the shot, Reddy smiled while his batting partner, Jasprit Bumrah, seemed amused. Rishabh Pant, known for his unorthodox shots, would have nodded his head in approval from the dressing room as well.

In the first innings, India eventually went all out for 180 runs with Reddy as the last man out at 42. Earlier, captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat at Adelaide Oval.

But, India started their innings on a wrong note as the first ball saw the fall of a wicket. Yashasvi Jaiswal was snared by yet another Mitchell Starc delivery. India did put together a healthy stand of 69 between KL Rahul and Shubman Gill, but they really collapsed moments after the latter was dismissed.

India lost six wickets in the second session after they were reduced to 82 for 4 at tea. Virat Kohli, who slammed a hundred in his last Test in Perth, flattered to deceive on his happy hunting ground and returned with 7 runs in the first innings.

Rishabh Pant (21) and the captain, Rohit Sharma (3), along with Harshit Rana (0), Ravichandran Ashwin (22), Jasprit Bumrah (0), and Nitish Reddy, fell to the post-tea session as the Australian bowlers continued their mainstay of attack on the first day of the second Test.

Pacer Mitchell Starc was the hammer and tongs and-legged for Australia as he went on collecting six Indian wickets, conceding just 48 runs. On the other hand, captain Pat Cummins took two wickets, including that of Rishabh Pant.
