Instagram Chief Prioritizes Short Videos: The meta-owned platform Instagram usually at first focused on short videos then moved to long videos and now again returning to its core focus on short videos because Instagram believes that it connects people with friends.

In a video clip, Instagram CEO, Adam Mosseri when he was asked by someone if the company is focusing on long videos, in reply he straight away denied it and said that Instagram is mainly meant for two purposes, one is to connect with friends and second is to explore your interest through short videos.

He further said, “You see an amazing video that makes you laugh out loud from a comedian doing a bit, and you send it to someone who you know is going to laugh just as loud as you did.”

“Or for me, I see a highlight of an amazing soccer goal or trick, and I send it to someone who I know loves soccer as much as I do. So these things are about connecting with friends over your interests.”

Instagram CEO announcement also added, “Now, it turns out that long-form video is less symbiotic with these other jobs. If you watch a 10 or 20-minute video, you see less content from friends, you interact with your friends less and you’re actually less likely to send that content or that video to a friend.”

“So we are not gonna go after that business because it’s part of our core identity to connect people with friends and we don’t want to undermine that by going after long-form videos. Now we understand short-form video doesn’t always do that but it can. We try to prioritize short-form video that does.”

However, Instagram first began as a photo-sharing app, and then in 2013, Instagram introduced messaging.

It tried focusing on long-form videos by introducing IGTV in 2018 but soon was closed in 2020 and then Instagram added reels to its collection which connected people through content and became a core element.

Before introducing Instagram Reels it also added stories and multiple images in a single post features to out stand among competitors like Snapchat.
