"I extend my best wishes to Right Hon. Mrs. Sushila Karki on assuming office as the Prime Minister of the Interim Government of Nepal. India remains firmly committed to the peace, progress, and prosperity of the people of Nepal," he said in an online post.
Karki was chosen to lead the interim government after a meeting between President Paudel, Nepal's top military brass, and the youth protesters, who spearheaded the anti-government protests.

Ms Karki took the oath as the interim prime minister of Nepal yesterday, capping days of speculation over who would head the Himalayan nation following the collapse of the Oli government.
She has become the country's first woman head and a beacon of hope for the masses wishing for a corruption-free regime.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, “We are hopeful that this would help in fostering peace and stability.”
"As a close neighbour, a fellow democracy and a long-term development partner, India will continue to work closely with Nepal for the well-being and prosperity of our two peoples and countries," the External Affairs Ministry said in a statement yesterday.

The 73-year-old former Nepali chief justice is widely known for her integrity and strength. During her time as Chief Justice between 2016 and 2017, she was known for taking a strong stance against corruption. She is now being seen as a consensus leader, since she was accepted by both the protest leaders and Nepal’s political establishment.
The interim government under Karki will now be tasked with restoring order, investigating violence during the protests and preparing for general elections in the country, which were scheduled for March 5, 2026.
