GMC Purchases New Automated Road Sweepers For 5.8cr: Guwahati Municipal Corporation recently bought two new road sweepers from an Italian company for 5.8 crores.

These vehicles will go 50 km in eight hours, which is 20 km farther than the current vehicles. They will cover 30 km in the same amount of time by collecting five cubic meters of dust.

The procurement officer of GMC, Partha Jeet Das added, “Once these vehicles arrive, they will go through some necessary inspections and after that, within seven to 10 days, we will start using them.

He further added, “These vehicles will be used to clean the road either during the early hours or at night for proper cleaning of roads. These will be operated and maintained by the contractors concerned.”

Currently, the GMC has four road sweepers by adding these two it will be 6 which is a huge development on the part of Guwahati city.

The GMC also said that it would cost an extra Rs 7.38 lakh to keep the two cars in good condition and pay for the manpower

According to the updates, the road cleaning process will take place at night or early morning so as not to cause any problem to problems to the public.

As there aren't enough sweeping tools, dust builds up on important roads. As cars and trucks drive on the roads, the dust rises into the air and makes the air more polluted.

Reports from IQAir--a Swiss air quality says that Guwahati has become the world 2nd most polluted city with an average annual PM 2.5 concentration of 105.4 micrograms per cubic meter of air which is more than the recommended level from WHO which is 5 µg/m³.

The municipal government is ready to get back to work and plans to make the pollution level decrease, it has also bought three more sprinkler machines, which each cost nearly 20 lakh rupees.

Thus, this recent step from the GMC is a significant development to keep the city, of Guwahati clean.
