Akbar Nagar Deadline Ends Tonight, LDA Enrolls 700 for PM Awas

Akbar Nagar Deadline Ends Tonight: Residents turned out in large numbers on Saturday to register for the housing scheme at a special camp run by the development authority.
As the deadline set by Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court for Akbar Nagar residents to vacate the slum built illegally on government land ends at midnight on March 31 (Sunday), the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has enrolled 700 residents out of 1200 for resettlement in the PM Awas housing scheme at Vasant Kunj on Hardoi Road in the state capital.
At Ganne Wali Gali in Aminabad, where a commercial complex was being built on 2000 square feet of land without an approved map, the development authority sealed an illegal construction on Saturday.
After the high court's order, LDA lowered the registration fee for PM Awas from 5000 to 1000 for Akbar Nagar residents. Each PM Awas will cost 4,79,550 after a subsidy of around 2.5 lakh.
In Akbar Nagar, the LDA has already demolished 24 commercial establishments.
All applicants are allotted houses at the time of application. Each residential block has ground plus three floors. Therefore, to ensure transparency, floors will be allocated by lottery," says Varma.
