X’s New Country-of-Origin Feature Shocks MAGA and Democrats as ‘US’ Accounts Found Foreign-Run
X, the former Twitter, introduced a feature by Elon Musk, in which clicking on the Joined tab on one’s profile, shows the country of origin of that particular account.
The country of origin feature introduced by Elon Musk, the previous Twitter, appears to have put the online world of both the MAGA and the Democrats into confusion. Some of the profiles on the internet which had propagated some of these narratives are now being discovered to be running outside of the US.
The social media platform added an option that lets one see the country on which the account is located in. To do it, one has to go to an account and go to the date joined tab and it will open a new page. This depicts the nationality in which that specific account is being conducted. Although it was briefly dropped upon its release, it has since been reintroduced and both sides of the political spectrum are feasting over it, accusing one another of online attacks.

What to know about American based accounts based in US
The stories under discussion here have driven the agenda in the US, and criticized US politics on a regular basis. Most of them are also named in a way that resembles political campaigns, such as some of the MAGA accounts.
These influencers of politics have however been detected to be located outside US and this is something that questions the motives.
One of the profiles named MAGA NATION with a following of above 392,000 is located in eastern Europe. Likewise, Dark Maga a page boasting of more than 15,000 followers is located in Thailand. The MAGA Scope with more than 51,000 followers is actually run in Nigeria, and the America First with more than 67,000 followers is run in Bangladesh.
“At this time thousands of MAGA-aligned influencer accounts and large political pages that claim to be based in the U.S. are now being investigated and exposed with many of them traced to India, Nigeria, and other countries,” a news aggregator page on X noted.
It wasn't just on the MAGA side. A profile with the name Ron Smith who proudly states that he is a Proud Democrat and a Professional MAGA hunter is run in Kenya. The account contains more than 52,000 followers.

An anti-Donald Trump page on X, Republicans against Trump, which endeavors to promote politics against MAGA, was reportedly based in Austria. Although the place is currently displaying US, X remarks that the account place may not be true as VPN is used. “The Anti-Trump account “Republicans Against Trump” which 1M followed has been identified as a non-American from Austria and is currently using a VPN to hide their location,” a page said, making note of this.
Republicans against Trump has more than 978,000 subscribers
In an aside, one of the accounts named Mariana Times, a follower with more than 78,000 people who shares pro-Israel content has been discovered to be located in India.
Individuals in the MAGA circle also have responded to this new feature.
My personal account of this was written by Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna on X, “All of these pretend “pro-America” accounts that were pushing infighting within Maga are literally foreign grifters. I’m telling you, the foreign opp is real and so are the bot accounts.”
Alexis Wilkins, girlfriend of FBI director Kash Patel also included, “I hope that everyone sees, regardless of their specific reason, that the enemy is outside of the house. The people posing as Americans with big American opinions but are actually operating from a basement across the world have one common goal - to destroy the United States. We have our issues, but we really can’t allow them to succeed.”
