UP Police Records Over 15,000 Encounters Since 2017: 256 ‘Hardened Criminals’ Eliminated, 31,960 Arrested

The statement added that since the Yogi Adityanath government took over office, police have had a zero-tolerance of crime.

The Uttar Pradesh Police has increased its intensity on the criminals, disabling or arresting a number of the wanted suspects in almost 12 encounters in the past 20 days, the State government said on Tuesday (October 14, 2025).

Under the Mission Shakti 5.0, the police killed Shehzad alias Nikki in Meerut on Monday (13th October, 2025), on a heinous crime committed against a minor girl, where the murderer had a bounty of 25,000 rupees. It said it had previously dealt with forcefully the miscreants who had been firing around the own home of actress Disha Patani in Bareilly.

The statement has said that police policy has been a zero-tolerance approach to crime since Yogi Adityanath government came to power.

Uttar Pradesh Police has stepped up its campaign against the criminals and has neutralised or captured some of its wanted suspects in almost 12 encounters over the past 20 days, as the State government announced on Tuesday ( October 14, 2025).

Under the Mission Shakti 5.0, the police killed Shehzad alias Nikki in Meerut on Monday (13th October, 2025), on a heinous crime committed against a minor girl, where the murderer had a bounty of 25,000 rupees. It said that previously they had taken a decisive move against the miscreants who had carried out gunfire outside the residence of actress Disha Patani in Bareilly.

According to U.P. DGP, 238 criminals and 9,467 fired in leg were shot in 14,973 encounters since2017 With Yogi Adityanath government in office, the police have operated a zero-tolerance to crime, the statement said.

In the last eight and a half years, they had as many as 15,726 encounters, 256 hardened criminals killed, 31, 960 arrested and 10, 324 injured. The statement stated that 1,754 and 18 police were shot and killed respectively.

There have been 4453 encounters in the Meerut Zone, 8312 arrests, 3131 criminals injured, and 85 notorious criminals killed. Two officers of the police were killed and 461 wounded.

statement stated under the leadership of the Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath."A criminal will either be in jail or out of the state." "This has instilled fear among criminals and a sense of safety among citizens. As a result, Uttar Pradesh's law and order situation has been widely praised at the national level," it said.

In line with the government of Yogi Adityanath policy, the police have dealt a severe blow to the organised crime, mafia syndicates, and extortion.

Besides the confrontations, other activities undertaken have included property confiscation, gangster act cases and imposition of strict laws such as NSA (National Security Act) among others which have worked successfully.

This eight-and-a-half-year long campaign against criminals has not only delivered statistical accomplishments but has also set the rule of law on the ground, the statement said under the zero-tolerance policy against crime and criminals.

The statement by the State government said, the prompt, hard and bold actions of the police have succeeded in driving a large number of criminals out of the state, and Uttar Pradesh is now cementing its reputation as a safe and fear-free State.
