Sujoy Ghosh to Direct Thriller with Shahid Kapoor After Stepping Down from SRK’s ‘King’: Report

Sujoy Ghosh Stepping Down from SRK’s ‘King: Filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh, known for his suspenseful hits like Kahaani and Badla, has been making headlines after he stepped away from Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming movie King. Speculations were rife that Sujoy was working on a new thriller and was in talking stage with Shahid Kapoor for that film.

The latest development is that Ghosh is now focusing on developing a thriller with actor Shahid Kapoor while Siddharth Anand, who directed Khan in Pathaan, will be helming King. However, Shahid Kapoor's team has denied the rumours of his collaboration with Ghosh.

The filmmaker is back to negotiating with the Haider actor, with insiders describing the movie as a signature Ghosh film filled with suspense and thrills. However, Shahid Kapoor is currently busy with Vishal Bhardwaj’s next project, based on Hussain Zaidi’s Mafia Queens of Mumbai. It is speculated that Sujoy’s film might go on floors in 2025.

The report quotes a source as saying, “Shahid was interested in the script earlier, but the timing wasn’t right. Now, both Sujoy and he are prioritising to align their schedules and bring it to life.”

Sujoy leaves King As per an earlier report, Sujoy Ghosh will no longer direct King, a crime drama he developed for Shah Rukh Khan. The actor's Pathaan director Siddharth Anand will fill in the shoes instead. King stars Shah Rukh in an age-appropriate role and marks his daughter Suhana Khan's theatrical debut. It also stars Abhay Verma and Abhishek Bachchan as the chief antagonist.

It's produced by Shah Rukh and wife Gauri Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment, and is reported to release in cinemas on the occasion of Eid in 2026, clashing with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love & War.

This news left everyone confused as no reason for the shuffle was revealed. However, a new report suggests that Sujoy has already moved on to his next project, with a big star already set to lead the thriller.
