Smriti Irani Mocks Congress: 'Hugging in Delhi, Begging in Kerala, Thugging in Karnataka'

Smriti Irani Mocks Congress: The Communist Party of India in Wayanad has fielded Annie Raja against Rahul Gandhi despite being partners in the opposition INDIA bloc, according to BJP leader Smriti Irani.

According to Irani, on one hand, the Left parties want Rahul Gandhi to run in Uttar Pradesh, and on the other hand, the same Left parties hugged him at the INDI Alliance meeting.

Irani compared the Congress alliance with Delhi's hugging and Kerala's begging, saying, "Yesterday I said in Kerala, 'Delhi mein hugging, Kerala mein begging.' The situation through which the Congress is going in Karnataka is, 'Delhi mein hugging, Kerala mein begging, Karnataka mein thugging."

According to the Union Minister, the opposition is fighting in Wayanad, during her interaction with businessmen in Bengaluru. Left parties ask, “The condition of the opposition is that they are fighting in Wayanad."

"Left parties are asking, “Why does Rahul Gandhi not go to Uttar Pradesh and contest? But when the same Left goes to Delhi for an INDI Alliance meeting, they hug Rahul Gandhi.”

The Gandhi family's political legacy, she claimed, was based on superficial gestures that exploited power.

"I request all the women that if we want everyone to take women seriously in politics, then we have to pay attention to important political issues. 'Saas-Bahu' serials are very far from the realities of life. Women who understand this can have a successful social and political life."

"The Gandhi family looted the country by clicking pictures and smiling. Casting your vote is a heavy responsibility, it is not a game of any TV serial," the Union Minister said.

Irani, who has also worked as an actor, urged women to exercise their voting rights responsibly, contrasting television portrayals of political participation with real life participation.

In Kerala, Annie Raja, a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Democratic Front, filed her nomination for Lok Sabha on April 3.

Despite their partnership in the opposition INDIA bloc, the CPI and Congress are fierce competitors in Kerala, pitting their strongest candidates against one another.

To ensure the BJP's complete dominance in the 2024 elections, Kerala State President K Surendran has been fielded as a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate. The Congress still has a strong presence in Kerala, which sends 20 members of parliament to the Lok Sabha.

The South Indian state will hold Lok Sabha elections for all 20 seats on April 26, and the vote counting will take place on June 4.
