Congress Slams Centre Over India-China Standoff: 'PM Sleeping After Taking Opium'
Days after China renamed 30 places along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), Kharge made the remarks in the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh.

Congress Slams Centre Over India-China Standoff:In a harsh attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge accused him of sleeping after taking opium when China was 'entering' Indian territory at the time.
Days after China renamed 30 places along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), Kharge made the remarks in the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh.
Kharge pointed out that no Gandhi has served as Prime Minister or Minister since 1989, yet the PM talks about dynastic politics.
Arunachal Pradesh, a region that Beijing claims belongs to southern Tibet, is on the fourth list of so-called 'standardised' names published by Chinese officials.
"Modi says 'I have a 56-inch chest, I will not be scared'. If you are not afraid, then why have you left a large part of our land for China? They are coming inside and you are sleeping. Have you taken sleeping pills? Have they taken opium from the fields of Rajasthan... and fed you?" Kharge told a news agency in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, during his election rally.
"He does not think about the country, he just abuses the Gandhi family and tries to take the country with him through torture. Modi is the 'sardar of liars,'" he said.
Besides renaming 30 places, Beijing provided detailed latitude and longitude as well as a high-resolution map.
Asserting that assigning 'invented' names doesn't change the reality that Arunachal Pradesh is, has been, and always will be part of India, India outright rejected the development as 'senseless'.
We firmly reject China's senseless attempts to rename places in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, according to Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
"Assigning invented names will not alter the reality that Arunachal Pradesh is, has been, and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India," he added.
According to Congress leader and former finance minister P Chidambaram, China is fortifying 2000 square km of Indian territory under the BJP government. Why doesn't the Foreign Minister react more strongly to China's renaming spree? "China is renaming villages and landmarks like crazy. Why is the Foreign Minister so subdued?" he tweeted.
