Sawan 2024 Fasting Guidelines: The Sawan month is believed to be one of the holiest months in the Hindu calendar and the month begins today on July 22.
Devotees celebrate this month by worshipping and honoring lord Shiva and Maa Parvati's and to seek their blessings Hindus keep fasting also known as Vrat.
For lord Shiva's blessing, devotees also offer panchamrit, milk, rice, bhuna chana, bel patra, and many other items.
Devotees maintain fasting(Vrat) also known as Sawan Somwar is held every Monday during the Sawan month.
People also believe that Sawan month marks the monsoon season in India and is a very important month for Hindus.
However, Sawan 2024 will begin on July 22 and will continue till August 19.

- Hindus during the Sawan month should perform fasting also known as Sawan Somwar and puja to Lord Shiva to receive his blessings.
- In the Sawan month, devotees should especially consume Satvik foods and break their fasting with Satvik foods.
- Devotees during fasting should avoid grains, beans, or meat items and can consume foods such as vegetables, and fruits.
- They should wake up early and take a holy shower before sitting for Puja rituals.
- They should visit the temple and offer milk, water, bel leaves, and fruits to Lord Shiva.
- Devotees should also chant Mantras such as Om Namah Shivaya, Shiva Gayatri, and many others.
- In this holy month, devotees should perform two pujas in a day.
- They should break their fasting or Sawan Somwar on the following morning after performing prayers to Lord Shiva.

Important Dos and Don’ts to Follow During Sawan Month
- It is also advised that devotees should abstain from marriage or any intimacy. This will help to create a holy environment for pujas and Vrat.
- It is also advised that devotees should resort to doing charity work by helping poor and needy people.
- During the Sawan month, devotees should also take an early morning bath before performing puja as it draws out negativity and also signifies purity.
- Devotees to avoid eating tamasik food such as eggs, meat, onion, and many other items.
- They should also avoid dairy foods, alcohol, and tobacco consumption during Sawan month.
- Devotees should avoid any kind of activities that drive negativity and should do meditation.
