RG Kar Rape-Murder Case: Kolkata Court to Deliver First Verdict Today, CBI Seeks Death Penalty

"I have been falsely implicated. I have not done this. Those who have done so are being let go. One IPS involved," Sanjay Roy claims.
The accused Sanjay Roy has been found guilty of rape and murder under sections 64, 66 and 103 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, reports PTI.
The judgment was delivered by Anirban Das, the additional district and sessions judge of the Sealdah court, 57 days after the in-camera trial commenced on November 12.
Judge Anirban Das said, That the maximum possible sentence for Roy would be the death penalty, while the minimum possible sentence would be life imprisonment, reports Live Law.
The judge said, "The accused will be heard on Monday. Now he is being sent to judicial custody. His punishment will be announced on Monday. I have fixed the time at 12:30 to hear the case."

The Kolkata Police, which was investigating the case initially arrested Roy on August 10, a day after the medic's body was recovered from the seminar room of the hospital. The Calcutta High Court later transferred the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The in-camera trial in the rape and murder of the doctor commenced on November 12.
The hearing in Roy's trial was concluded on January 9, during which 50 witnesses were examined.
Ahead of a court’s verdict in the RG Kar Hospital rape-murder case, the parents of the victim expressed concerns that the investigation remains incomplete, with other accused involved in the crime still at large.
The victim’s mother and father said they would continue to fight for justice. Their daughter’s body was discovered in the seminar room of the state-run hospital on August 9 last year. The case sparked nationwide outrage and led to prolonged protests.
