Delhi Fog Disrupts Travel: Several Flights, Trains Delayed; IMD Predicts Rain, Thunderstorm Next Week
As the national capital remains under the grip of the cold wave, Delhiites woke up to a foggy morning on Saturday. The dense fog also lowered visibility in many parts of the city, further disrupting the flight and train operations.

Amid fog, Delhi airport operations were affected as a few flights were delayed at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport today.

As many as 47 trains headed towards the national capital were delayed till 6 am due to the foggy weather, PTI reported citing the Indian Railways. Several flights at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport were also delayed due to fog, news agency ANI reported.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature is expected to settle at 7 degrees Celsius, while the maximum is likely to hover around 19 degrees Celsius. At 7:30 am, the temperature was recorded at 11 degrees Celsius.
The IMD had earlier forecast “very dense fog” for the city, with these conditions likely to persist for three days. Rain or thunderstorms are expected on 22 and 23 January, potentially bringing some respite from the cold and smog.

Additionally, the overall AQI of Delhi was recorded at 248 on Saturday, according to the Sameer app which provides hourly data on the National Air Quality Index.
“As per the air quality and weather forecast provided by IMD/IITM, there is a likelihood of AQI to remain in lower end of the Very Poor category in the coming days owing to the favourable meteorological conditions and strong wind speeds," the CAQM statement read.
As temperatures plummeted, people sought refuge in night shelters, especially in areas such as Safdarjung. Vegpal Singh, a local volunteer, described the support provided by these shelters, stating, "The people who are taking refuge in the night shelters here are being provided with two-time meals and proper bed and blankets. If there are any medical treatments needed, we take them to AIIMS hospital which is nearby."
