Mumbai Rain LIVE: IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall to Continue Till August 21
Mumbai was put under a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) based in the city, mobilized on the heels of an orange alert issued Friday. Residents have been urged, by the Mumbai Police, not to venture outside unless it is essential.

Mumbai Rain LIVE: Mumbai was still on Saturday to experience heavy rain which led to water logging on some of the roads resulting in the traffic being on a standstill. First morning images included images of washed tracks as the rain persisted.
People were spotted sloshing through inundated streets with poor visibility even among commuters. According to the Mumbai Traffic Police, traffic was impacted at some major points. Mankhurd T Junction to Maharashtra Nagar tunnel was closed, and the railways lines at Sion and Bandra stations also faced waterlogging due to the jammed water.

A shift in stance by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had declared a higher alert or a red alert over Mumbai as compared to the orange alert which was issued on Friday. Mumbai Police has advised its citizens not to go outside without a need.
Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai on their official X handle alerted people that the heavy rainfall activity will persist until August 21. It issued the weather forecast between August 16 and August 20 with red alerts being announced in certain areas August 17 and 18.
“Mumbai is experiencing heavy rainfall with an Orange Alert in effect. Waterlogging and reduced visibility have been reported in several areas. Mumbaikars are advised to avoid non-essential travel and to exercise caution while venturing out,” the Mumbai Police posted on X.

The effect of the rains was also shared by several users of the social media. One uploaded a video that had zero visibility outside with the caption, “It is all clouds here.” Another wrote, “The 200mm+ figures of #Mumbairains are coming in as predicted. More days of heavy rain to come, with areas like Thane, Raigad, and Navi Mumbai also getting heavy showers. Sun-Wed, keep a watch.”
In the meantime two were killed and two injured as a landslide occurred in Jankalyan Society, Varsha Nagar, Vikhroli Park site in Vikhroli (W), ANI reported quoting Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Locations that received the highest volumes of rain between 8:30 am on August 15 and 5:30 am the following day were Vikhroli 248.5 mm, Santacruz 232.5 mm, and Sion at 221 mm and Juhu 208 mm, Bandra 173 mm, Byculla 158.5 mm and Colaba 70.4 mm.
