IndiGo Pune-Bengaluru Flight Delayed by 5 Hours After Pilot Refuses to Fly – Here’s Why

Pune Bengaluru flight news: An IndiGo pilot refuses to fly from Pune to Bengaluru, citing that his duty hours have exceeded, leading to a five-hour delay.

The IndiGo flight which was supposed to take off at 12:45 am from Pune after being 5 hours late departed from Pune at 5:44 am and arrived in Bengaluru at 6:49 am.

The IndiGo flight 5-hour delay happened on September 24 but recently stir a lot of discussion on social media after a user posted a video showing angry passengers shouting at the flight captain and Indigo cabin crew about the delay.

The X user named was Avishek Goyal who shared the video of the situation inside the plane and captioned it with, “Indigo flight was delayed for 5 hrs after Pilot refuses to take off due to working hours ending.”

He further added, “Frustration of passengers can clearly be seen. But why blame only the pilot? Blame the company, not the crew. IndiGo has become a joke.”

The Pune Bengaluru IndiGo delay reason was that the pilot who was supposed to take off the plane had already completed his duty hours and the IndiGo pilot refuses to fly anymore.

In the IndiGo flight delay Pune-Bengaluru video, it can be seen all the frustrated passengers were gathered around the cockpit as one of the cabin crew asked her colleague to call the pilot.

Passengers got more frustrated after the indigo pilot entered the cockpit and closed the door. After that, one passenger was spotted saying, “I think you should grow up. Sir, can you come out.”

Another one added, “This is how they close the door because they have no answers.”

An X user reacted on the video, adding that they neither got any “refreshments” nor “compensation”, calling it an "absolute disregard for customer service."

As the frustrated passengers were criticizing the pilot for refusing to operate the plane, aviation veteran Sanjay Lazar responded by stating Pune Bengaluru IndiGo delay reason and the pilot’s decision.

Sanjay Lazar explained, “It’s not like a factory where workers can clock in & out when needed. The pilots can’t exceed their Duty limits as it invites penalties from the DGCA including implications for their license. Incidentally, unauthorised extensions of FDTL will also invalidate your flight insurance as an airline or as a flying passenge.”

He further added, “So, in the interests of flight safety, the pilot knows what he is doing, please let him be. He didn’t cause the delay!”

Indigo also issued a statement stating that the flight was delayed for operational reasons.

The statement issued by Indigo added, “Flight 6E 361 scheduled to operate from Pune to Bengaluru on September 24, 2024, was delayed due to operational reasons related to flight duty time limitations. Customers were kept informed about the delay and our team was available throughout the duration to assist customers. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
