India’s Got Latent Row: Supreme Court to Hear Ranveer Allahbadia’s Plea Today – Key Updates

India’s Got Latent Row: The Supreme Court is slated to hear on Tuesday (February 18, 2025) a plea of influencer Ranveer Allahbadia against the FIRs lodged over his alleged distasteful comments during a show on YouTube.

Apart from multiple police inquiries across states, Allahbadia was also summoned by the National Commission for Women and is likely to face a Parliament panel.

On February 14, Allahbadia approached the Supreme Court, requesting immediate protection from impending police actions. His lawyer argued the case before the apex court, stressing the urgency of the matter and seeking consolidation of the various FIRs lodged against Allahbadia.

Despite the gravity of the request, the Supreme Court declined to grant an immediate hearing, stating that the matter would be reviewed within the next two to three business days.

Recently, in a joint statement, the Mumbai and Guwahati Police said that Allahbadia is continuously out of contact with the investigation agencies. "He has not made contact with any of the agencies so far."

The controversy surrounding Allahbadia’s remarks snowballed into a legal battle, with cases filed against against the entire panel of the controversial episode including comedians Samay Raina, Jaspreet Singh, content creator Apoorva Mujhika aka the rebel kid, and YouTuber Asheesh Chanchalani. The producers of the show are also facing cases.

While Allahbadia has already apologised twice over the matter, the outrage has refused to die down.

In the second apology last week, he wrote on X, “I will follow due process and be available to all agencies. My remark about parents was insensitive and disrespectful. It is my moral responsibility to do better and I am genuinely sorry."

At least three FIRs have been filed against Allahbadia so far - one in Assam, another in Mumbai and a fresh FIR was filed against him in Jaipur on Monday. Mumbai and Guwahati Police said that the popular influencer is "continuously out of contact".

KEY UPDATES

Ranveer Allahbadia has apologised twice for the remarks on Samay Raina’s show. In a recent post, he said that he is receiving death threats from people.

Comedian Samay Raina said in a post that this row has been too much for him to handle and that he will cooperate with investigation agencies.

Content creator Apoorva Mukhija, popularly known as the rebel kid, has already appeared before the Mumbai police and recorded her statement.

Samay Raina has deleted all the episodes of his popular show ‘India’s Got Latent’ from YouTube which had garnered millions of views.
