Grimes Calls for End to Racism Against Indians: Elon Musk’s former partner and Canadian singer Grimes has spoken out against the rise of anti-India sentiment on American social media, calling for an end to racist and bigoted posts targeting Indians. Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, revealed that her stepfather is Indian and that she grew up in a culturally blended household.

The sudden wave of anti-India sentiment followed the appointment of Sriram Krishnan, a tech entrepreneur of Indian origin, to an advisory role in the Donald Trump administration. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Grimes addressed the issue and highlighted her connection to Indian culture.

She said, “Suddenly concocting anti-Indian energy out of nowhere is embarrassing y’all. Also, they were clear they planned to do this."

Grimes shared that she grew up in a half-Indian household after her mother married Ravi Sidhu, the director of Vancouver-based East India Carpets. She said, “My stepdad’s Indian. I had a fire childhood in a half-Indian household. Indian culture jives very well with Western culture."

Grimes not only called for an end to racism against Indians but also defended her stance in the comments section.

Asked if “India would be okay with being flooded with American culture, so much that it changes their culture significantly,” she replied: “We already did this to them. It has caused a ton of problems for them.”

Owing to this, there was a lot of cultural fusion in her upbringing which is her strength, Grimes said, adding, “We’ve already flooded India with American gadgets, causing them problems. But if we had sent more companies, they would’ve benefitted through job creation."

Job creation and outsourcing are at the center of the controversy, with millions of Americans claiming that Indian workers are taking away employment opportunities from Americans. The row has also put the spotlight on the issue of green cards and H1B visas, through which highly skilled workers can live and work in the United States.
