Delhi Weather Update: Heatwave Red Alert and Safety Tips from IMD

Delhi Weather Update

Delhi Weather Update: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Delhi. According to IMD, the heat Index was 50 degrees Celsius temperature in Delhi on Monday and on Tuesday is expected to stay between 49 and 51 degrees Celsius.

However, Delhi will be under a "red" alert until Tuesday, and temperatures are expected to rise to 45 degrees Celsius again.

Reports from the Safdarjung Observatory recorded a high of 45.2 degrees Celsius, which is 6.4 degrees warmer than normal days.

The weather department has also expected the temperature to decrease from June 19 onwards in Delhi and may drop to 47 to 49 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

IMD has also reported extreme heatwave conditions in most parts of Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, south Bihar and south Uttarakhand as well as some parts in Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, northern Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, northern Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Vidarbha.

As per the IMD reports, some parts of parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, northern Madhya Pradesh, and northern Rajasthan experience temperatures between 44 and 46 degrees Celsius.

However, the temperature in Delhi on June 18 is 41 degrees Celsius and can rise to 47 degrees Celsius.

These severe heatwaves are increasing the chances of heat-related diseases such as heatstroke and the risks are high among people who are out in the sun for long periods.

Safety Tips from IMD

Here are some safety measures suggested by IMD to follow during severe heatwave conditions:

  • IMD suggests having a proteinous and energetic food for breakfast, so if you are going out, it will help to stay energetic and provide nutrients to your body in these severe heatwave conditions.
  • You should always stay hydrated, IMD suggests carrying at least a 1-liter water bottle in your bag so you can stay hydrated throughout the day.
  • IMD suggests wearing light clothes as they are the best choices to stay cool and comfy, it also allows more oxygen to your skin in these extremely severe heatwave conditions.
  • IMD also reported that it is mandatory to use sunscreen to protect your skin from harmful skin diseases such as aches, rashes, and many others.
  • Also, carry an umbrella or wear a cap when you are going out, it will provide you with a little relief from these extreme conditions.
