Delhi Airport Covered in Dense Smog: IndiGo Issues Advisory for Passengers

Indigo Issues Advisory for Passengers: IndiGo Airlines has issued a travel advisory to passengers traveling from Delhi, as it warns that dense fog may cause interference in operations.

Air travellers face visibility in the national capital due to strong prevailing winter weather conditions.

The airlines have described fog as one of the major factors causing interference in air travel, saying passengers should allow more time for travel and checking statuses before arriving at the airport.

Dense fog and increasing air pollution have brought widespread disruptions in the National Capital with air as well as road traffic getting affected.

Emergency procedures for handling the spiralling situation with zero visibility were activated and invoked, affecting not only daily lives but also travel plans.

Low Visibility Procedures have already been initiated at Delhi Airport, said Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL).

Meanwhile, the Delhi government on Monday imposed stage IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) as the Air Quality Index in the national capital crossed the 450 mark on Sunday that falls in the 'severe plus' category.

On Monday, the national capital recorded an AQI of 481. This is over and above the preventive/restrictive actions mentioned under Stage I, Stage II, and Stage III of GRAP already in force.

Seven flights were cancelled at Delhi airport Monday morning as thick smog lowered visibility. The airport also saw delays in both departures and arrivals. Flight-tracking website Flightradar24 reported over 160 flights were impacted as of 8:30 am.

"Over 160 flights, 118 departures and 43 arrivals, at Delhi Airport experienced delays due to the low visibility till 8.30 am," stated information from Flightradar. Departures saw an average 22-minute delay.

Spicejet has also issued a similar advisory: "Due to poor visibility in Delhi (DEL), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status it said in a post on X.
