Delhi Air Quality Deteriorates to Severe Plus, Schools Shift to Online Classes

Shift to Online Classes: In response to the rising pollution levels in the capital, the Delhi government on Sunday announced that students from nursery to Class 9 would shift to online classes starting Monday until further notice. However, physical classes for Grades 10 and 12 students will continue as scheduled.
The Delhi government announced stricter controls over pollution under Stage 4 of the Graded Response Action Plan, following a rise in air pollution levels.
The measures will become effective from Monday morning at 8 am and are expected to curb the deteriorating air quality of the city, which had reached the 'severe plus' category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 457 on Sunday evening.

Significant limitations imposed by GRAP-IV include – Trucks are not allowed to enter for all other vehicles except those, carrying essential items or those running on clean fuels like LNG, CNG, BS-VI diesel, or electric power.
Non-essential light commercial cars from outside Delhi are also prohibited from entering the area, except for EVs, CNG, and BS-VI vehicles.
Additionally, construction work on public infrastructure projects like highways, flyovers, power lines, and pipelines have been stopped.

According to Central Pollution Control data, Delhi's day-average air quality index had sharply mounted to 441 by 4 PM on Sunday and further escalated to 457 by 7 PM, This egregious spurt prompted an emergency meeting of the GRAP Sub-Committee.
