Corruption-Accused Assam Politician Caught Sleeping on Bed of Cash of Rs 500, Shocking Footage Emerges

Corruption-Accused Assam Politician Caught Sleeping on Bed of Cash: In Udalgiri district, Benjamin Basumatary, chairman of the village development committee, is seen sleeping on a bed covered with 500 notes.
The viral video of UPPL's Benjamin Basumatary sleeping with money in Assam has sparked debate. UPPL distances itself from the incident, emphasizing that he will not be held accountable.
Several sources suggest that the Bodoland leader has been accused of corruption related to the housing scheme and rural jobs program of the Prime Minister. He is accused of receiving bribes from PMAY and MNREGA beneficiaries under his VCDC in Odalguri Development Zone.
PTI has not verified the authenticity of the photo circulated during the election, according to Basumatary's sources.
UPPL has distanced itself from this incident, confirming Basumatary's suspension and removal from the VCDC post. UPPL chief Pramod Boro stated that Basumatary's suspension was recommended by the Harisingha Block Committee.

On February 10, 2024, the BTC Government revoked Basumatary's position as VCDC Chairman.
