Congress Supriya Shrinate and BJP Dilip Ghosh Receive Election Commission Notice: Latest Updates

Congress Supriya Shrinate and BJP Dilip Ghosh Receive Election Commission Notice: Over "derogatory" remarks against actress Kangana Ranaut - the BJP's candidate for Himachal Pradesh's Mandi Lok Sabha - and Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the Election Commission has issued show-cause notices to Congress leader Supriya Shrinate and the Bharatiya Janata Party's Dilip Ghosh.
According to the poll panel, "the comment(s) have been found to be 'undignified and in bad taste,' and prima facie in violation of the Model Code of Conduct..."
ECI has given Shrinate and Ghosh until 5 pm Friday to explain why no action should be taken against them. "If you do not respond, it will be presumed that you have nothing to say..." the ECI said.
On Ms Shrinate's Instagram account, a crude and sexist post targeted Ms Ranaut.
Congress leader Shrinate released a video clarification on her X handle explaining that the inappropriate post had been made without her knowledge.
मेरे फेसबुक और इंस्टा के अकाउंट पर कई लोगों का एक्सेस है. इसमें से किसी व्यक्ति ने आज एक बेहद घृणित और आपत्तिजनक पोस्ट किया था.

"Many people have access to my Facebook and Instagram accounts. Someone from them made an extremely inappropriate post today. As soon as I came to know, I deleted that post. Everyone who knows me knows I can never make personal and indecent comments towards any woman," she said.
Her post was also blamed on a parody account bearing her name.
She said that someone copied it from there and posted it on her Instagram and Facebook accounts. She is trying to find out who did it. The parody account has also been reported to Twitter.
By then, however, the post and the photograph had sparked a storm, including a letter from the National Commission of Women calling for action against Shrinate.
She also called on Sonia Gandhi to take "stringent action" against Supriya Shrinate and HS Ahir for similar remarks.

In response, Ms Ranaut, who is making her political debut in this Lok Sabha election, responded sharply.
It is imperative that our daughters are freed from prejudices, we must rise above curiosity about their body parts, and above all, we must refrain from abusing or slandering sex workers' difficult lives or circumstances. "Every woman deserves dignity," she emphasized.
During a video, Dilip Ghosh poked fun at the Chief Minister's 'daughter of the state' claim, saying, "She should first decide who her father is".
"The Chief Minister went to Goa and said, 'I'm the daughter of Goa', and in Tripura, she said, 'I'm the daughter of Tripura'. She should first decide who her father is," the 59-year-old BJP leader said.
As a result of Mr Ghosh's crude remark, Ms Banerjee's Trinamool Congress has ripped into him.
Although the BJP was trying to corner the Congress over the post on Ms Shrinate's account against Ms Ranaut, Mr Ghosh's comment also left the party on the back foot.
