ChatGPT Down: Global Users Affected, OpenAI Investigates

ChatGPT Down: An artificial intelligence chatbot that gained worldwide popularity- is now offline due to some technical defect that suddenly hinders millions of users from accessing the service. This outage was earlier than 7 PM ET. Along with the falling down of ChatGPT, OpenAI's API and Sora services are also suffering in silence.

The representatives behind the company that built ChatGPT acknowledged the issue on social media, but the good news is that they were working on a fix already identified. "We're experiencing an outage right now. We have identified the issue and are working to roll out a fix. Sorry and we'll keep you updated" the company said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

As expected, this means widespread interruption for many of those firms which rely on OpenAI API for their projects. Many users have turned to social media to vent their frustrations and confusions, with most claiming that performance has been degraded and their logging in was slow.

Down Detector, the mapping service which tracks outages, has recorded significantly more complaints about ChatGPT being offline than at any other time in the past. The numbers reflected by Down Detector are based on user submissions and do not equate to an accurate representation of total users affected.

However, OpenAI has not provided any expected time for such services to return to normal. The company has promised that users would be up-to-date with the developments made.

"We have reports of API calls returning errors, and difficulties logging in to platform dot openai dot com and ChatGPT. We have identified the issue and are working to roll out a fix. We have identified the issue and are rolling out a remediation. We are working as fast as we can to return service to normal and apologize for the downtime," an OpenAI engineer shared on social media.

Facebook, Instagram down

Meta Facebook and Instagram grounded thousands of Americans earlier today. More than 27,000 people reported their violence issues under Facebook; and more than 28,000 did so for Instagram. This made the total of outages starting sometime around 12:50 ET.

WhatsApp, Meta's messaging application, according to Downdetector.com, was also down for more than 1,000 users.

This problem occurred earlier in the year when some technical issues were raised, and this resulted in an outage that affected hundreds of thousands globally for more than two hours in Facebook and Instagram.
