BJP Roars Back in Delhi; PM Modi Declares End of ‘AAP-da’—10 Key Takeaways from Election Results

BJP Roars Back in Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party broke through Delhi's political barriers and defeated the Aam Aadmi Party in the assembly election on Saturday, overthrowing the party that had been in power for 27 years.

In the Delhi assembly, the BJP, led by JP Nadda, won 48 of the 70 seats, denying Arvind Kejriwal's party a hat-trick of victories. The AAP bagged 22 seats, taking a massive hit from its 2020 tally of 62 seats in Delhi.

“Development, good governance have won; we will leave no stone unturned for Delhi's all-round development,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a post on X after the poll results.

1. The BJP won the Delhi assembly election with 48 seats and is set to form the government in the capital after 27 years.

2. Haryana, Maharashtra and now Delhi. PM Modi-led BJP has won three state elections on a trot In fact, not only has the party won these 3 states, it has gone on to score its best-ever tally in Haryana, Maharashtra.

3. He started the BJP's elect electoral campaign with "AAP-da" jibe and immediately energised the cadre of the saffron party. Then he doubled down with his "Farziwal" dig at Arvind Kejriwal. The PM even used his reply to the motion of thanks on the President's address in the Lok Sabha to highlight the anti-corruption charge with "Sheesh Mahal"

4. Kejriwal's defeat at the hands of BJP candidate Parvesh Verma by a margin of around 4,000 votes turned out to be the end result. After losing the seat, the AAP chief congratulated the saffron party and said hoped that "they will fulfill all the promises for which people have voted for them".

5. Arvind Kejriwal's former deputy and party colleague Manish Sisodia conceded defeat even before the official announcement and said that he lost the Jangpura constituency seat to BJP's Tarvinder Singh Marwah "by 600 votes".

6. Delhi chief minister Atishi, meanwhile, emerged victorious and won the Kalkaji assembly constituency by a margin of 3,500 votes. she thanked the voters for their support to her, she also said that this was not a time for celebration, rather to "continue the 'war' against the BJP".

7. PM Modi said, “Today's victory is historic. This is not an ordinary victory. The people of Delhi have driven out 'AAP-da'. Delhi has been freed from the 'AAP-da'. The mandate of Delhi is clear. Today, development, vision and trust have won in Delhi. Today, ostentation, anarchy, arrogance and the 'AAP-da' that had engulfed Delhi have been defeated. I congratulate every BJP worker and all of you for this victory."

8. Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said that the victory against the Aam Aadmi Party was expected as people's anger at Kejriwal's party was visible throughout due to their failure in governance and sheer corruption.

9. Notably, the results were largely in tune with the exit poll predictions, which also projected a win for the BJP.

10. The Bharatiya Janata Party has yet to reveal a chief ministerial face for Delhi. Several names have been doing the rounds after the party swept out AAP in the assembly elections.
