Bengaluru Techie’s Final Words to Wife Before Being Killed in Pahalgam Attack: ‘Don’t Worry, Stay Strong’

Pahalgam Attack: A special plane carrying Bhushan's mortal remains arrived in Bengaluru at around 3:45 a.m. on Thursday. He was later buried in a solemn ceremony with full state honours.

She was continuously comforting her three-year-old son, who witnessed the horror, while she drove from Pahalgam to Srinagar under security cover, with help from the Indian government and coordination from Karnataka. Bhushan and his family have long been considering a trip to Kashmir; they currently reside in Mathikere, Bengaluru.

Despite being the father of a child, the terrorists showed no mercy to Bhushan and shot him thrice. Speaking to the Times of India, Sujatha said her husband’s final words were, “Don’t worry, don’t worry… stay strong."

Sujatha said she was near a tent, checking out a traditional Kashmiri outfit at the scenic Baisaran meadows, when one of the terrorists approached them after gunning down a tourist and said, “How is it that you are happy here while our children are being killed and we are suffering? Don’t you read the news about us?"

He killed another tourist before pointing the gun at Bhushan and asking his name. “My name is Bharath," he said, after which he was shot thrice in the head.

“After shooting my husband, the terrorist went away. I rushed to my husband and took his wallet. We had a BSNL postpaid phone, and on a bench were our bags. So I grabbed those and ran," she said. “Being a doctor, I knew he won’t survive after he was shot in the head. I kept running and looking back to see if anyone was following us. There were so many bodies. I climbed onto a horse with my son and from thereon, CRPF took care of us."

As she was driving from Pahalgam to Srinagar with security cover and assistance from the Indian government as well as coordination from Karnataka, she was constantly consoling her three-year-old son, who was a witness to the horror. Bhushan and his family live in Bengaluru’s Mathikere and had been planning a visit to Kashmir for a long time.

Bharath’s mother-in-law provided a harrowing account of her conversation with her daughter, Sujatha. She revealed the terrorists’ cruel methodology: “They apparently asked if you were Hindu and then shot them… They shot my son-in-law because he was Hindu… They didn’t shoot women and children, but shot the men in the head. They kept shooting till they fell down."
