In Chennai, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the new GST changes, which reduce most products to 5% instead of 12% will be put in place in the whole country as early as September 22, before Diwali.
GST Reforms A Win For Every Citizen Of India: Nirmala Sitharaman, the Union Finance Minister on Sunday indicated that the GST reforms are a grand triumph of every citizen in the country.

Considering that each state in India has their festivals, Sitharaman announced at an event in Chennai that the GST reforms would be implemented much before Prime Minister Narendra Modi orders them to be introduced before Deepavali festival.
She stated in her speech at the event, "Tax Reforms for Rising Bharat" organised by Chennai Citizens Forum, that the positive effect of Goods and Services Tax would be felt throughout all products since the dawn of the day until people sleep.

Some of the main initiatives that were explained by Sitharaman entailed the reduction of 99 per cent of all the goods previously charged 12 per cent under GST to 5 per cent.
The most recent round of GST reforms will come into effect since September 22.
