A mass shooting in western North Carolina has left one person dead and 12 others injured, according to the Associated Press.

The shooting happened in the Catawba County city of Hickory just after 12:45 a.m.

So far, some of the victims from the party have been taken to the hospital with injuries, and at least one of them is in critical condition. The Hickory Police Department and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation have opened an investigation into the shooting. So far, no arrests have been made.
A spokesperson told WCNC Charlotte that the other victims are in critical condition at area hospitals.
The spokesperson said a party had been taking place at the house, and that the shooting appeared to be connected to the party.

Authorities have yet to make a public decision as to possible suspects, and they declined to release ages of victims as well.
Sheriff investigators are working with the Hickory Police Department, and Special Agents from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation in a joint investigation.
