3 Killed, Several Injured in Violent Clashes: Ananya Kumar reported on Sunday that three people died in violent clashes over the survey of a mosque in Sambhal, Moradabad division.
“Three persons namely Naeem, Bilal and Niman died during the clash. He said 20 to 22 cops including officials ( CO Sambhal, PRO to SP Sambhal, one SDM) sustained injuries while other injured received injuries of splinters). Meanwhile, 15 persons have been detained,” the divisional commissioner added.
Tuesday's survey of the Mughal-era Jama Masjid by the locals turned violent when stones were hurled at the police team.

In retaliation, the police resorted to tear gas and used "minor force" to control the situation-hurling tear gas and using "minor force" to disperse the assembled crowd. The situation has been tense in Sambhal for the past couple of days after the mosque was surveyed last Tuesday based on a court order in response to a petition that alleged the presence of a Harihar temple at the very site.

Local administration has said that an "Advocate Commissioner" has started a second survey regarding the court-ordered examination into the disputed site around 7 am, when hordes of people began gathering on the plot.
"Some miscreants came out of the crowd gathered near the site and pelted stones at the police team. The police used minor force and tear gas to bring the situation under control," Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Vishnoi said.
According to the police official, those who threw stones and incited them would be identified and punished.

DGP Prashant Kumar said, “A survey is being conducted in Sambhal on the orders of the court. Some anti-social elements have pelted stones. Police and senior officers are present on the spot. The situation is under control, the police will identify the stone pelters and take appropriate legal action."
“What happened in Sambhal was orchestrated by the BJP, the government and the administration to divert attention from electoral malpractices," news agency PTI quoted Akhilesh Yadav as saying.
“A serious incident occurred in Sambhal. A survey team was deliberately sent in the morning to disrupt discussions about the elections. The intention was to create chaos so that no debate on election issues could happen," Yadav added.
District Magistrate Rajendra Pesia said, “Some miscreants resorted to stone pelting but the situation is peaceful now and the survey is underway.”
