Drunk Driver Takes Wrong Route: A woman in Bengaluru jumped out of a moving auto-rickshaw to escape from a drunk driver on Thursday. The incident happened when she booked an auto from Horamavu to Thanisandra. Her husband shared the story on social media platform X, explaining that the driver was drunk and started driving in the wrong direction.
The woman had booked the auto via the Namma Yatri app for a journey from Horamavu to her home in Thanisandra. However, things took a troubling turn when the driver, instead of following the usual route, started heading toward Hebbal. After repeated questions, the woman noticed the driver was unresponsive and appeared intoxicated.
According to her husband, the driver’s erratic behavior raised alarm bells, particularly as the woman noticed the driver’s red eyes and overall signs of intoxication. “When the vehicle reached Nagavara, the driver made a sudden turn towards a flyover that wasn’t part of the route,” Khan told Times of India.

Despite her repeated pleas for him to stop, the driver ignored her, prompting the woman to jump from the moving auto as it slowed down near the down ramp.
The incident occurred around 9:15 p.m., and the woman escaped without significant injuries. After the jump, the driver approached her, promising to drop her at the correct location. However, she refused, paid for the ride online, and hired another auto to reach her destination.

Khan criticized the lack of emergency response features in the Namma Yatri app, stating that the platform failed to provide immediate assistance. "My wife messaged me when the driver took the wrong route, but network issues delayed our communication. She informed me after jumping from the auto, and we could only connect after she hired another vehicle," Khan explained.
He complained that Namma Yatri has no customer care number to contact in the event of an emergency. “The biggest shortcoming of ‘Namma Yatri’ service is that there is no customer support. It asks us to “wait for 24 hours.” How is it possible to wait for 24 hours.” How is it possible to wait 24 hours in an emergency? How is the safety of the woman?” he asked the Bengaluru police.
While the woman has not officially reported the incident to authorities, Namma Yatri responded to Khan’s post. “Thank you for your time over the call, Azhar. Please DM us for further assistance,” Namma Yatri’s team said.
