Pandya to Lead India in Champions Trophy 2025: Rohit Sharma’s 2024 ended on a tough note, and 2025 hasn’t been any kinder. Just as the New Year was about to dawn, the spotlight once again shifted to Rohit’s Test cricket future, this time after his poor show in the Melbourne Test.
Rohit yet to clarify his future in the format, the speculations further opened doors for BCCI's selection committee to discuss leadership options for the impending ICC Champions Trophy.
It is learned that Hardik Pandya will be given the leadership role in ODIs. The BCCI sees the all-rounder as the potential candidate to lead India National Cricket Team in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 if the current skipper comes under scanner for his leadership.

Rohit's Test Career Remains A Question Mark
Rohit Sharma was dropped from the team amid his poor returns with the bat, and this has raised a lot of speculations about his future across the formats. Now, in a drastic turn of events, the reports in MyKhel have suggested something that would not be good news for the captain.
As per the reports, it is learned that with Rohit Sharma getting dropped from Tests, BCCI has already started exploring leadership options in ODI cricket as well.
The reports added that if his role as a captain in the 50-over format comes under scanner, then he would be relieved of his captaincy duties.
With the uncertainty over Rohit’s future increasing, even leadership changes in the one-day format are also under consideration at the BCCI.

If questions arise over the position of the ODI captain in Rohit or if selectors choose to curb the 37-year-old cricketer’s responsibilities, it will be none other than Hardik Pandya who may be presented with the chance to take the helm.
Two years of captaincy in the two limited-over formats have adequately equipped Pandya to take charge of the reins.
“Hardik has the knack for leading in high-pressure situations, and his experience as an all-rounder and leader makes him an ideal choice for an ICC tournament like the Champions Trophy,” a source told MyKhel.
There is no chance that T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav might be taking over the charge in the ODIs as well because of his poor record. There are chances that Shubman Gill, who is the vice-captain of the team, might be considered as well for the role.
