Yogi Adityanath’s Bold Statement After UP Bypoll Sweep: During a press conference on Saturday, Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath lauded the BJP's stupendous victory in the by-election and stated that it was because of the effective governance and developmental initiatives embarked by the government.
Adityanath again expressed the sentiments behind his ‘batenge toh katenge’ public utterance as well as that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ‘ek hain toh safe hain’, and reinstated that the why the BJP fared well in the previous elections was that the people have confidence in the government within which in Prime Minister Modi.
The BJP had won Ghaziabad and Khair seats and was also ahead in Kundarki, Phulpur, Majhawan, and Katehari. Its partner, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), led in the Meerapur seat. The Samajwadi Party conquered Sismau and was ahead in Karhal.

Mostly while on campaigning mission to states like Maharashtra and Jharkhand, Adityanath had more of his ‘batenge toh katenge’ slogan s possible but it did earn some opposition criticism on the ground that the aggrieved Wadhawan was being sectarian.
Akhilesh Yadav, head of the Samajwadi Party, was equally rude towards Adityanath, calling the phrase its most negative ever and stating it was similar to imperialistic strategies to ‘rule without governing’.
It also drew criticism from Congress, with party president Mallikarjun Kharge inquiring if there was any practical need lurking behind such an appeal.
This slogan also met with dissent from the BJP’s Maharashtra ally, the NCP. NCP president and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar declared that this slogan "will not have any relevance to Maharashtra", and added that the priorities should be on progress instead.
Nonetheless, Adityanath stood by the slogan asserting that it was the ‘sama’dhikaris’ who were trying to induce caste and religion based rift in society.

WHY WERE THE BYPOLLS HELD?
The by-elections gazetted in Uttar Pradesh were the very first ones to be held after the general elections. It became imperative as eight members of the state assembly elected to the Lok Sabha vacated their seats. In Sisamau, Elections were being held as there was the disqualification of Irfan Solanki a Congress MLA after he was found guilty of a criminal offence and the assembly election was due.
In the last assembly elections for Uttar Pradesh Vidhansabha held in 2022 elections, BJP won Phulpur, Ghaziabad, Majhawan, Khair and while SP won Sisamau, Katehari, Karhal and Kundarki.
This was also the time RLD controlled Meerapur when it was aligned with the SP. It has in recent times realigned and joined forces with the NDA led by BJP. The Congress did not on the other hand throw its net over the circle and decided to sit out the bypolls, instead siding with the Samajwadi Party which is a constituent in the INDIA coalition.
The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) fielded candidates in all nine seats, and the AIMIM had candidates in Ghaziabad, Kundarki, and Meerapur. The Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram), led by Chandrashekhar Aazad, fielded candidates in all the seats except for Sisamau.
In the present assembly, there are 251 MLAs from BJP and 105 from Samajwadi Party.
