Viral Video of Maharashtra Minister Playing ‘Rummy’ in Assembly Sparks Outrage; He Responds

Viral Video: Purported videos showing what NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar described as Maharashtra minister Manikrao Kokate playing a rummy game in his mobile phone in an assembly were shared by him on Sunday.

Slamming at the ruling NCP group, Rohit Pawar of Sharad Pawar group of the party said that the NCP can not work without consulting the BJP and agriculture minister Manikrao Kokate has no work and has got time to play rummy.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Ajit Pawar branch of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena form the ruling Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra.

On the post on X, Rohit Pawar said: On X, Rohit Pawar shared what he claimed was a video of his state legislative assembly sitting, during which a leader of the NCP, Kokate, was seen playing a game on his mobile phone.

"The ruling NCP faction is unable to function without consulting the BJP, which is why even as there are several issues related to agriculture pending and eight farmers committing suicide daily in the state, the agriculture minister, who has no work, appears to have time to play rummy," the NCP (SP) legislator wrote in the post.

Minister reacts to rummy controversy

About the controversy, Manikrao Kokate added that it is a solitaire game and not a rummy.

"Any of my colleagues must have downloaded it. I was trying to see what was happening in the lower house. I was not playing rummy. The opposition is trying to demean the government," Kokate said.

Congress Party (SP) MP Supriya Sule raised her voice in Parliament on Sunday against the resignation of Manikrao Kokate and said that 750 farmers have been committing suicide in the last three months and the minister is busy playing politics.

She said that the chief minister needs to act and get him out of the position should he refuse to resign.

"A video of the Agriculture Minister of Maharashtra has come out. When the House was in session and the debate was underway, he was playing rummy on his mobile...750 farmers have committed suicide in three months and the Agriculture Minister of Maharashtra is playing these games. He should resign for this dirty act; otherwise, the Chief Minister should remove him," news agency ANI quoted Supriya Sule as saying.
