‘I Believe in AAIB’: Aviation Minister Slams Western Media Over ‘Vested’ Coverage of Air India Crash Probe

Civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu described it as a massive success because AAIB was able to decode the damaged black box in India in contrast to the past incidents when it used to send it abroad.

‘I Believe in AAIB’: Aviation Minister Slams Western Media Over ‘Vested’ Coverage of Air India Crash Probe

‘I Believe in AAIB’: Civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu on Sunday said the government will keep its lid shut till the final report comes on the Air India mishap near Ahmedabad.

He told western media to quit speculation and praised Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), which cracked the codes in the black box in India.

“AAIB has made an appeal to all, especially Western media houses, which may have a vested interest in the kind of articles they are trying to publish. I believe in AAIB. I believe in the work that they are doing. They have done a wonderful job in decoding the whole black box and getting the data out in India itself,” Kinjarapu said.

He termed it a great success, considering that in the past the black box would necessarily be shipped to retrieve information.

“It was a huge success for us because previous incidents, whenever the black box was seen to be damaged, it was always sent abroad to get the data out. But this is the first time that successfully AAIB has decoded everything. The data has been here. The preliminary report has also been seen,” the minister remarked.

The minister urged caution in concluding until the investigation is done saying it would be inappropriate to make such conclusions at this point.

“Making any comments until the final report has come, I don't think it is a good exercise on behalf of anyone. We are also very cautious and studying the report thoroughly, and whatever necessary needs to be done in terms of safety, we are ready to do it,” said the civil aviation minister.

Again, he reminded people to be calm and assured that the government is focused on maintaining safety in the aviation industry.

“Regarding the incident and investigation, we have to wait for the final report before we say anything.”

Circumstances surrounding the Air India crash which occurred in Ahmedabad on 12 June are under review by the AAIB. The initial results are being analysed and the final report should provide a better idea on the reasons and safety measures required.
