UPI Payments Could Soon Use Face ID: Billions of Indians now prefer digital payment methods, and people are using UPI in their day-to-day lives. Several apps run across the country for money transactions of billions of people.
Now, in the upcoming days, there will be a major change in UPI payments which claim to be safer than the present digital payment methods.
According to the reports, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) are discussing enabling a biometric authentication for UPI payments on smartphones.

For instance, People will be able to make their UPI payments using fingerprint sensor ID on Android phones, and iPhone users can use face ID to make payments. UPI authority is concerned due to the scams that are now reported on a daily basis, as it’s a hint from details sourced via Moneycontrol.
Several people lose their hard-earned money because they use a simple four or six-digit PIN to confirm a payment. People get duped by scammers even though UPI’s mechanism is most of the time secure but they lose their money while they are expecting to receive it.
As of now, people must be aware of the OLX scam, a fake UPI payment scam, which even sends a notification to warn people before making the transaction instead of the other person sending it to you.

However, there is the only option left to the NPCI to enable Face ID or biometric security for UPI payments. There is no confirmed news of when the Face ID integration into UPI apps will happen, or when the public-facing app will support it.
People in the country have apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, Amazon Pay, Paytm, and many others for UPI payments. We hope that the app will let people choose between the PIN or biometrics to make transactions as the technology is reliable for such sensitive tasks.
