Terrorists Kill Non-Local in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian; Police Launch Investigation

The body of non-local found in Waduna, Zainapora, Shopian with bullets. SSP Shopian confirms it as a terrorist attack. Body has been taken to hospital for MLR.

Terrorists Kill Non-Local in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian: The body of non-local found in Waduna, Zainapora, Shopian with bullets. SSP Shopian confirms it as a terrorist attack. Body has been taken to hospital for MLR.

This is just days after Omar was sworn in as first CM of UT J&K after 6 years of President’s rule.

NC-Congress won the recent assembly polls with JKNC winning 42 and Congress 6. BJP got 29, PDP 3, PC 1, CPI(M) 1, AAP 1 and 7 independents. Elections were held in 3 phases after the abrogation of Article 370 and concluded on Oct 8.

Yesterday, a day after taking oath, Omar chaired his first cabinet meeting in Civil Secretariat, Srinagar. He was the CM of J&K from 2009 to 2014.

Yesterday, a day after, an Indian Army soldier was found dead with bullet injuries after being kidnapped by terrorists in Anantnag, police sources said on Oct 9.

Two soldiers of 161 unit of Territorial Army were kidnapped from forest area in Anantnag during a joint anti-terror operation launched by Army and J&K Police on Oct 8. One of them managed to escape with two bullet injuries.

“His name was Ashok Kumar Chauhan. We are actually from Bagalpur, Bihar. Here we live in Sangam. We sell corn nowadays, and daily people come here to buy corn. Today, four-five people came here at around 7am to buy corn, and till 8am we were together. Later, he got a call from somebody saying that come, I will give corn, but when he didn’t return for a long time and didn’t pick up the phone, we searched for him and found his dead body at around 9.30am. He has four five wounds; we can’t tell if they are knife wounds or bullets. He was a poor man who had a wife and three children’s,” the roommate said.

A senior official said this morning that some people passing by found a dead body on the roadside. A police and security team reached the spot and took the body in custody.

The body will be sent for postmortem and an investigation will be started to find out the facts and the people behind the killings, he said.

Police say initial investigation and situation suggests that it is a terrorist attack and we have also launched a search operation in the area. Non local skilled and semi skilled labourers including masons, carpenters, paddy harvesters and others engaged in different labour intensive jobs have been targeted by terrorists in Kashmir Valley in the past.

The incident comes days after Omar Abdullah was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
