Supreme Court Halts Probe Against Bengal Officers Amid 26,000 Teachers Job Losses.
Supreme Court Halts Probe Against Bengal Officers: In a huge relief to the Mamata Banerjee government, the Supreme Court on Monday stayed the Calcutta High Court's order directing the CBI to probe West Bengal government officials in an alleged teacher recruitment scam.
In an appeal, the state government contested a high court order invalidating the appointments of 25,753 teachers and non-teaching staff in state-run and state-aided schools by the School Service Commission (SSC).
According to a bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Misra, the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) will continue to investigate state officials.

In its appeal, the state government argued that the high court had arbitrarily canceled the appointments.
As a result, the high court did not understand the consequences of canceling the entire selection process, which resulted in the immediate termination of teaching and non-teaching staff from service, without giving the petitioner state sufficient time to deal with such an exigency, resulting in the halting of the education system.
According to the Calcutta High Court, the CBI will investigate further the persons involved in the creation of supernumerary posts for illegal appointments by the state government.
According to the high court, the CBI may interrogate such persons in custody if necessary.
