Ranbir Kapoor Races for Daughter Raha, Calls Her His ‘Dal Chawal’ — Ramayana Co-Star Indira Krishnan Shares

Ranbir Kapoor Races for Daughter Raha, Calls Her His ‘Dal Chawal’: In the world of Ramayana, Ranbir Kapoor may be playing Lord Ram, but off-screen he’s playing what might be his most favourite role yet—that of a father. And few have seen this transformation more closely than actor Indira Krishnan, who plays Kaushalya, Ranbir’s on-screen mother in Nitesh Tiwari’s magnum opus.

In a recent interview, Indira spoke about her very personal experience of working with Ranbir—not just as an actor but as a loving and hands-on father.

Indira spoke about her experience with Ranbir on the film and called him her favourite co-star. She said he would go out of his way to make her feel at home on set—pull up a chair, check in on her day and have thoughtful conversations.

Calling him her "favourite co-star, hands down", Indira recalled how Ranbir would go out of his way to make her feel at home on set - pulling up a chair, checking in on her day, and sharing thoughtful conversations. "I've never seen a star of his stature treat people the way he does," she said.

Indira recalled having a conversation with Ranbir about Raha and revealed that the actor had asked for her son’s childhood books for Raha. “He told me Raha is his dal chawal. The simplicity and love with which he talks about his daughter—it stayed with me. Every day he would remind me, 'Ma'am, did you get the books for Raha?’” she said.

Ranbir’s bond with her son Anirudh was just as special. They would chat for hours in his vanity van from school boards to parenting advice, with Ranbir always seeking guidance on what to do for his little girl.

She went on to share a sweet anecdote about how Ranbir once showed up on set with a slight limp. “I asked him what happened, and he said, ‘There was a race, Indira ji… I ran for Raha. And I came first.’ He'd pulled a muscle but still showed up to work like nothing happened. That’s Ranbir. A father before anything else,” she recalled.

For the uninitiated, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt became parents to their baby girl Raha in November 2022. And on the work front, the actor will be seen next in the much-awaited film Ramayana and will play Lord Rama on screen. It is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and features an ensemble cast including Sai Pallavi, Yash, Lara Dutta, Ravie Dubey and more.

Ramayana, produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios and 8-time Oscar-winning VFX studio DNEG in association with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, the film is being shot for IMAX and will release worldwide. Part 1 on Diwali 2026 and Part 2 on Diwali 2027.

Ranbir was last seen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal. He is currently shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film Love & War alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal
