Ramayana’s ‘Judi Jodi’ Song Sparks Debate as Fans Compare Shreya Ghoshal and Chinmayi Sripaada’s Versions
The song, written by A.R. Rahman to lyrics by Dr. Kumar Vishwas is a new look into the musical world of the film.
Judi Jodi is a song by the makers of Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana: Rise of a Legend that takes viewers into the wedding of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita. The song stars Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi, which was released during the occasion of ‘Karwa Chauth’ – a festival dedicated to the married couple. The song is created by rapper A.R. Rahman and the lyrics are penned by Dr. Kumar Vishwas and is the latest peek into the film's musical universe.
Judi Jodi celebrates Rama and Sita's wedding
The song portrays the celebration of Rama's wedding with Sita and the varmala ceremony. It's now available in five languages—Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. The Hindi version has been sung by Shreya Ghoshal. In social media posts, the creators said, “Worship this Karwa Chauth with an everlasting love, and a heavenly connection, Judi Jodi, song out now”.

Shreya Ghoshal and Chinmayi Sripaada's performances were compared
The Hindi version also has raised a debate on Shreya Ghoshal's studio recording and Chinmayi Sripaada's live version. One user on X felt Chinmayi's performance carried more emotion, writing, “Shreya Ghoshal's Judi Jodi studio version despite being clear somehow lacks the soul and melancholy of Chinmayi Sripada 's live version even though it was unprepared. A testament to importance of texture and simplicity in certain compositions. #ARRahman.”
But some others thought that Ghoshal's voice raised the composition. Another listener wrote, “THERE YOU GO! in praise of her performance. Shreya Ghoshal just TRANSFORMED this middling composition. It doesn’t always work but she has this innate ability to infuse life into a song with the mere verve of her voice. She has pulled this off for mediocre tunes like Deewani Mastani & Ghoomar too. #Ramayana.”
The track has also been seen by some as a highlight of the score for the film so far. In a comment on One X, one user wrote: “Judi Jodi is probably the first proper song from AR Rahman for Ramayana, Shreya Ghoshal and the Chorus is awesome here. I can finally listen to something.”
However, a few fans want to see Chinmayi's version also officially released. Another listener commented, “I wish that the makers officially release @Chinmayi version too...it was as beautiful as this one.”
Chinmayi Sripaada plays at the music launch
Chinmayi learned the song at short notice and her rendition brought joy to some listeners. Later, in social media, she clarified that she had acted as a substitute and gave the credit to Shreya, who is the actual singer. She shared on X: “Judi Jodi is beautifully sung by the original singer Goat Shreya Ghoshal and I got a chance to learn the song literally at the last moment, I am grateful to the opportunity and my Guru Rahman Sir.”

We have been working on a lot of things: filtration, ideation, iteration, etc. etc. and we don't have any energy to look at feedback!” We simply say "let's get it out there" since it has already been tested and proven quite a few times. My son says to me, ‘This is what they said yesterday, now they're apologising...' I say, ‘Well, I did my work sincerely and so I hope people celebrate it.
The composer has termed Ramayana as his most adventurous work. The music was said to have taken about 3 and a half years to create and the two had been talking about working together for over a decade. If somebody in New Zealand or Europe sees Hans Zimmer's name, they'll watch. If they see Indian names, they might assume it's another Indian movie but they'll be interested to see what he's done collaborating on this. It's a great move by the producer.”
