Puja Khedkar’s Mother Denies Role in Truck Cleaner Abduction Case

The mother, Puja Khedkar, a former probationary IAS officer, allowed to go on interim pre-arrest bail in the truck cleaner abduction case has accused of being slapped with false charges.

In a bail application, Manorama Khedkar stated that she actually had no part in abduction of the truck cleaner but only offered him hospitality when he was taken to her Pune family home by her husband and his bodyguard.

Refusing to admit the charges against her, she accused her that she has been wrongfully implicated in the case, wherein the bodyguard of the family, Praful Salunkhe was arrested last week.

In her bail plea, the woman said her husband took Prahlad Kumar, a helper in a cement-mixer truck, home only to talk to him about the car damage. She claimed that Prahlad was in their house late at night and then their driver drove him to a bus station the following day at 9.30 am.

She claimed that she is a decent woman and has no conviction record. She stated that she is “a respectable woman" and does not have a conviction record. “⁠I should not be arrested to avoid humiliation. I will not misuse the bail and will follow all the conditions. ⁠I was cheated and implicated in this case because there is a dispute regarding my daughter’s UPSC selection," she stated in her plea.

Manorama had applied to the pre-arrest or anticipatory bail in the court of Belapur, which authorized her a temporary bail until October 13 since the hearing would proceed.

According to FIR, the cement-mixer truck hit an SUV belonging to Puja and husband of Manorama, Dilip Khedkar, on the mulund-Airoli road, on October 13. The helper of the truck was also claimed to have been kidnapped after the incident.

Dilip was somehow accused of absconding, yet Manorama was accused of obstructing the work of the police officials who went to the family home in Pune to investigate the case and also of being a part of the conspiracy to destroy evidence.
