New Delhi Municipal Council Plans 8 Sewage Treatment Plants, Treated Water to Boost Delhi Green Cover

New Delhi, The New Delhi Municipal Council has requested bids to install eight decentralised sewage treatment plants on a public- private partnership basis with the intents of using the treated water in horticultures, in fountains and water bodies.

This would assist in reducing reliance on fresh water to keep the city green.

Under the Request for Proposal given on Tuesday, the civic body intends to put in place STPs carrying 500 to 1,000 kilolitres per day capacity at some strategic points, such as Shanti Path, Lodhi Garden, Sanjay Lake Park and Talkatora Garden.

The treated sewage water will then be utilized in maintaining NDMC green cover despite the limited availability of freshwater, officials explained.

The civic body has fixed the last date of submission of bids to be April 15 and a pre-bid meeting will be held on April 1. The project will be undertaken by a group of private developers selected according to the document and will maintain the STPs within 12 years.

The tender does not involve a specific project cost and bidders are expected to offer their financial models.

But the first security deposit at the time of bidding is 10 lakh and a bidder has to provide a performance security worth 40 lakh.

According to the RFP document the tender value will be fairly calculated by means of competitive bidding on the basis of the lowest rate of treated water quoted by bidders as they will be used to contract the concessionaire.

A project will save water and enhance water sustainability in the capital considering the NDMC, which serves an approximate 3.5 lakh population, and almost 15 lakh daily floating population.
