‘Neither Richards Nor Bradman’: Kohli, Rohit Advised to Follow Yuvraj Singh’s Example

Neither Richards Nor Bradman: Yograj Singh, an ex-cricketer, has offered the advice to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to participate in domestic cricket in order to regain their form. The star players have suffered from poor performances and had a tough tour to Australia, in which India lost 1-3. After their disappointing displays in red-ball cricket, multiple former cricketers have advised them to play some Ranji Trophy matches. Yograj has joined the bandwagon and said that "no one is bigger than cricket, not even legends like Viv Richards or Don Bradman."

Yograj further explained that if Kohli and Sharma take part in the Ranji Trophy, it will further benefit the younger players, who will have the opportunity to rub shoulders with these two seniors.

“You can never become bigger than the game. Neither Viv Richards nor Don Bradman, they were never bigger than cricket and neither can anyone become. So what you do is you come back from the tours, you must start playing domestic cricket. When Test players play domestic cricket, then the rest of the youngsters playing with them get a lot of confidence,” Yograj told ANI.

In the meantime, Rohit confirmed that he will play Mumbai's next Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir, while Kohli has pulled out of Delhi's match due to a neck sprain. The former India captain last played a Ranji Trophy match back in 2012 against Uttar Pradesh at Mohan Nagar in Ghaziabad. There are only two star batters: Kohli and KL Rahul from Karnataka, missing from the Ranji Trophy because it is obligatory by the Board of Control for Cricket in India to play it.

‘Yuvraj Singh used to go and play Ranji Trophy’

Yograj went on to say that around this time Yuvraj used to play Ranji matches when he was not a part of the Indian squad, and insisted that Rohit and Kohli should take advantage of this free time, as practicing in the nets does little to help someone like them.

“Whenever Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh) all the time when he was not in the Indian squad, he used to go and play Ranji Trophy. When the team was not playing any tournament. So, I think this is one thing that they should come and play, all of them, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. There should be a fitness camp for the players. Nothing happens in the nets, everything happens in centre,” he added.
