Kantara 2 in Trouble: Rishab Shetty Film Faces Allegations of Forest Damage, Harassment

Kantara 2 in Trouble:About the much-awaited sequel to Rishab Shetty's National Award-winning classic Kantara, Kantara Chapter 1 is very much in trouble following a boil bath of controversies. The film is being shot at the picturesque forest region close to Gavigudda, Karnataka, and the residents are angry with the local residents' serious complaints against the production crew.

It's reported by India Today that locals are alleging of violation of environmental regulations and intrusion into the grazing areas. The filming was permitted in the grazing areas, while they extended it to the central part of the expansive forests of Gavigudda, disturbing the environment. In addition to the anger of the locals, it is also alleged that explosives were used while shooting, raising a serious question over the safety of the wild fauna.

Eruption of the matter started blowing up again after Sanna Swamy, a zilla panchayat member, laid bare what the locals have had to deal with because of the movie-making. Swamy pointed out the ensuing rise in elephant attacks and disturbances faced by locals due to the intrusive methods of filming. There was reportedly an angry confrontation between locals and the film crew, which turned violent after a young man from that region was badly injured. The young man was struck down by a member of a filming crew and was taken to the hospital.

This incident has added fuel to the fire, with local communities calling for the stopping of filming activities and the moving of the shooting location to another area, while demanding strict actions against the crew who allegedly violated the regulations through their rebellious behavior.

Although Kantara Chapter 1 was molded on the foundations laid by its predecessor, this patch of controversies is something that is threatening to cloud its creation, as eager fans and stakeholders wait with bated breath to see what unfolds next.

Rishab Shetty’s upcoming film Kantara Chapter 1, the much awaited prequel to his National Award winning film Kantara, is in trouble. The film is being shot in the forest area near Gavigudda, Karnataka and has got into trouble with the local residents. According to India Today, the locals including a former Zilla Panchayat member have complained against the team for violating the environmental rules and overstepping the limits. They say while the team was allowed to shoot in the grazing areas, they went into the core forest area of Gavigudda and disturbed the natural habitat. Adding to the furore, reports say explosives were used during the shoot and the locals are worried about the safety of the wildlife which inhabits the area. Sanna Swamy, a Zilla Panchayat member pointed out the rise in elephant attacks and other problems faced by the villagers due to the invasive shooting. They have also demanded strict action against the team for their disregard to the rules and aggressive behavior. While Kantara Chapter 1 was expected to build on the success of the previous film, these controversies may overshadow the film’s shoot and the fans and stakeholders are waiting to see how this plays out.
